About

The traditional Viennese brand Bitzinger has always stood for enjoyment and hospitality at the highest level and it is impossible to imagine Vienna without its sausage stands, especially at the Albertina.

With the reopening of its vinotheque in the Augustinerkeller - Bitzinger's “The Passion” - the only restaurant designed by renowned architect Hans Hollein opened in May 2024 - with an exclusive ambience, sophisticated food and the finest wines. In November, Bitzinger's “The Cellar” in the Augustinerkeller reopened its doors as a restaurant where traditional Viennese cuisine meets modern sophistication. The third area of the Augustinerkeller - Bitzinger's “The Event” - will also be available as an exclusive setting for business events or company celebrations.

From the sausage stand to fine dining, Bitzinger is considered part of the Viennese world of indulgence and is therefore firmly anchored in the minds of visitors.

With the reopening of the vinotheque, the focus was on developing a design that fits in with the Bitzinger family's image and meets the challenge and opportunity of further developing a traditional Viennese brand. When expanding the brand, it was essential to continuously recognize potential and thus not stand in the way of further development. At the same time, traditional values and recognition value must be preserved.

The Bitzinger brand was faced with precisely this difficulty and strived for a brand identity that reflected the reopening of the vinotheque and the Augustinerkeller in a modern way and combined with traditional values.

Closely linked to the customer, we look at the key characteristics of the traditional company. What does the brand stand for? How is the enjoyment of Viennese products communicated? And how should the Augustinerkeller fit into the overall picture? With the help of mood boards, various potential color palettes and different style suggestions, we were able to work out the direction for the three sub-areas of the Augustinerkeller together with our client at the beginning. Based on this, we developed logos, consistent color and image worlds as well as supporting design elements for “The Passion”, “The Cellar” and “The Event”.

The various communication measures for the opening of “The Passion” and “The Cellar” bring the defined design into practice and ensure that the appearance can be experienced not only on paper, but also in the Augustinerkeller itself and beyond. From the invitations for the opening, to printed materials for the vinotheque and the restaurant, to the implementation of various video shoots, we have been supporting our client since the start of the project. Especially when the Augustinerkeller reopened after a long period of time, we were in constant contact with the customer as well as with the trades involved, such as the interior designers who gave the restaurant its new look. Thanks to close, personal support, we were able to adapt the design language and elements to the atmosphere on site and also collaborate with the interior designer on signage, etc.

In addition to our involvement with the Augustinerkeller, we were also able to support the Viennese sausage stand culture. “Unique taste at home” - this was the message that Bitzinger's sausages were to share with people at home. Using our headless webshop solution, we also brought the Viennese sausage experience to life digitally. The sausages can now be easily ordered and prepared with tips on how to enjoy them perfectly. The good and close cooperation with DHL Express Austria should also be mentioned here, which ensures smooth shipping and a positive experience when the parcel is handed over during the customer journey.

Communication planning and event support

We began with a comprehensive introduction to the world of the traditional Viennese brand. What makes it special, what are its goals and how can we communicate successfully? In collaboration with the client and the interior designer for the location, we supported Bitzinger throughout the event process and beyond.

Modernity and tradition

The Augustinerkeller is considered a true Viennese original. As part of the further development of the brand, the traditional brand has been refined with fresh charm without ignoring traditional core values. The design blends harmoniously into the Bitzinger brand world and yet does justice to the further development.

Genuine Viennese sausage enjoyment on the web

itzinger's sausages are regarded as a unique culinary experience in Vienna and have become indispensable. The Viennese sausage stand culture should now also be brought to life at home. Exclusivity and enjoyment were transported to the web via the separate webshop, making it possible to enjoy the sausages at home.

Separation and interplay of designs

The fact that the Augustinerkeller consists of three areas is very important for the design development. Each area tells its own story and thus distinguishes itself from the other parts. Nevertheless, the design worlds are not so different that they do not harmonize well with each other, as the three areas are naturally communicated to the outside world through the shared location and their interplay with each other.
